What is CBD?

Cannabidiol or CBD is just one of over 85 cannabinoids discovered to date in the cannabis plant. CBD is present in more significant amounts in industrial hemp than marijuana. Because it is non-psychoactive, CBD is widely regarded by researchers as the cannabinoid that has the most medical potential. 

CBD and other cannabinoids are naturally occurring compounds that display potent anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. They can promote the body's healthy regulation of the central nervous, immune, and endocannabinoid systems.  CBD interacts with the body’s natural endocannabinoid system to promote homeostasis for overall health and wellness.

What is the Endocannabinoid System (ECS)?
The body’s natural endocannabinoid system (ECS for short) is found in every animal and regulates a broad range of biological functions. The ECS is a biochemical control system of neuromodular lipids (molecules that include fats, waxes, sterols and fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamins A, D, E and K and others) and specialized receptors configured to accept certain cannabinoids.

The endocannabinoid system is involved in regulating a variety of physiological and cognitive processes. from fertility, pregnancy, during pre- and postnatal development, appetite, pain-sensation, mood, and memory, and in mediating the psychoactive effects of cannabis. The ECS is also involved in mediating some of the physiological and cognitive effects of voluntary physical exercise in humans and other animals, such as contributing to exercise-induced euphoria as well as modulating locomotor activity and motivational salience for rewards.

Two primary endocannabinoid receptors have been identified: CB1 receptors are found predominantly in the brain and nervous system, as well as in peripheral organs and tissues (through out the entire body). CB1 and CB2 receptors control where cannabinoids are activated throughout the body. These two neural receptors bind with cannabinoids to promote homeostasis (the body’s healthy balance) for overall health and wellness.
